The European Union is firmly committed to phasing out fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases), including HFCs, in the refrigeration, heating and air conditioning sectors. At CarFix, we are not waiting until the last minute — we already offer technologies and products that comply with the upcoming regulations.
🌍 Key facts and timeline:
1. The new EU Regulation 2024/573 is effective from 11 March 2024.
• A quota system for the introduction of HFCs is already in place.
• From 2025, additional restrictions, e.g. a ban on the export of equipment containing HFCs with a GWP of ≥ 1000.
2. Target of 0% HFC by 2050.
• The EU announces the complete phase-out of HFCs by 2050.
3. Bans on placing on the market by type of equipment:
• From 2025: commercial refrigerators and freezers with HFC GWP ≥ 150.
• From 2026: domestic refrigerators and freezers, unless required for safety reasons.
• From 2027 to 2035, further bans on heat pumps, split air conditioners and monoblock air conditioners up to 12 kW:
• monoblock air conditioners up to 12 kW – from 2032
• split air conditioners up to 12 kW – from 2035
4. Service bans:
• From 2025, a ban on the use of new HFCs with a GWP of > 2500 in small refrigeration systems;
• From 2026, HFCs with a GWP of > 2500 in air conditioners and heat pumps;
• From 2032, a service limit of GWP ≤ 750.
5. Control and F-Gas portal – manufacturers, importers and exporters must register and report via the F-Gas portal, which has been operational since 2025.
